Sancaktepe’s oldest historic structure is Damatris Summer Palace that was built by I. Tiberius Konstantinos (578–582) and Mavrikos (582–602) in Byzantine Age. Turks started to come to Sancaktepe in the 7th century but they could not be permanent up to the Ottoman. Ottoman Empire conquered this area completely in 1328.

Istanbul Samandıra Army Air Base, (Turkish: İstanbul Samandıra Kara Hava Üssü) (ICAO: LTBX) is a military airport of the Turkish Army located in Kartal district of Istanbul, Turkey. The air base is home to 4th Army Aviation Regiment of the Turkish First Army.

The facility is situated within the Gen. İsmail Hakkı Tunaboylu Barracks just north of the Anatolian Motorway O-4. Two helicopter squadrons are stationed at the army air base, each operating ten UH-1H Iroquois and ten UH-60A Black Hawk. In addition, eight UH-1H and three Cessna T182TSkylane are available for use to the HQ of the regiment.

Sancaktepe Prof. Dr. Feriha Öz Emergency Hospital (Turkish: Sancaktepe Prof. Dr. Feriha Öz Acil Durum Hastanesi, commonly referred to as Sancaktepe Emergency Hospital), is a hospital in Sancaktepe district of Istanbul Province, Turkey for use in emergency situations like pandemics, epidemics or earthquakes. It was opened in end May 2020.
